How Fossical-D Tablet work?

Fossical-D Tablet contains calcium and vitamin D3 (also known as cholecalciferol/cholecalciferol).

• Calcium: Calcium is one of the most profuse minerals in the body which is essential for critical metabolic functions. Most prominently, it is required for building and maintaining healthy bones and teeth. It plays a crucial role in nerve transmission, muscle function, cellular signaling, and hormone secretion.
• Vitamin D3: Vitamin D3 plays a very crucial role in the absorption of calcium and phosphorous from the intestine, which is critical for the formation, growth, and regeneration of bones. It supports healthy bones and teeth. It also plays a role in cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and reduction of inflammation.

Indication of Fossical-D Tablet

Osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, hypoparathyroidism, and disorders of osteogenesis are all treated and prevented with this drug. Additionally used as a supplement for elderly people, rickets, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and children whose diets are deficient in calcium. Other indications include pancreatitis, phosphate binder in chronic renal failure, and other conditions.

Pharmacology

This preparation contains calcium and vitamin D3, and the calcium carbonate comes from coral. The chemical structure of the calcium carbonate found in coral is strikingly similar to that of human bone. Coral calcium is similar to calcium from other sources, but it is more readily absorbed. In order to keep the body's calcium levels balanced, vitamin D3 facilitates calcium absorption from the GI tract.

Dosage & Administration of Fossical-D Tablet

Dosage:

• The dosage of Fossical-D Tablet will be determined by your doctor based on your specific condition and needs.
• Follow the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment as instructed by your doctor.
• Do not exceed the recommended dosage without medical supervision.

For the prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency:

• The usual dosage for adults is 1 to 2 tablets daily or as prescribed by the doctor.

For the treatment of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, and hypoparathyroidism:

• The dosage will be determined by the doctor based on the severity of the condition and individual requirements.

• Fossical-D Tablet should be used with caution in patients with sarcoidosis, immobilized patients with osteoporosis, malignancies, and impaired renal function.

• Consult your doctor before taking Fossical-D Tablet during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Fossical-D Tablet is not recommended for patients with hypervitaminosis D, kidney stones, and conditions that increase calcium levels in the blood and urine (e.g., hyperparathyroidism).

Administration:

• Take Fossical-D Tablet orally with water.
• It is recommended to take the tablet after meals to enhance absorption.
• Swallow the tablet whole and do not chew or crush it.

Interaction

Tetracycline and fluoride preparations can be less effectively absorbed when taken with oral calcium, so at least 3 hours should pass between taking these medications. Thiazide diuretics decrease calcium excretion by the kidneys. Barbiturates, phenytoin, and glucocorticoids can all cause the metabolism of vitamin D3. The intestinal uptake of calcium may be decreased by concurrent consumption of certain foods like spinach, cereals, milk, and its derivatives.

Contraindications

Intolerance to any of the ingredients, hypocalcemia brought on by an excess of vitamin D3, hyperparathyroidism, bone metastases, severe renal failure, severe hypercalciuria, renal calculi, etc.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This can be given to pregnant and lactating mothers as per a physician's recommendation.

Precautions & Warnings

• If mild hypercalciuria is present, careful monitoring and a dose reduction may be necessary.
• In cases of mild to moderate renal impairment and in cases of long-term use, it is important to monitor the levels of plasma and serum calcium.
• Patients with renal stones or such a past history should exercise caution as well.

Storage Conditions

Store at a temperature of below 30°C, and protect from light & moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
